Assignment #2 Applications
Here are ten applications that I could possibly use in my Area Studies of Wisconsin class at Oshkosh North High School.

Price: Free!
external image mzi.jrgsmmfp.75x75-65.jpgThis application would be suitable for the students to use for current events assignments. What's nice about this application is that it features Wisconsin new, and the student may also watch news stories on podcasts.

external image icon.png The Qwik Hunting Calls & Sounds app has a minimal cost, but could be beneficial to those students
who enjoy, or wish to learn more about deer hunting, one of Wisconsin's most popular sports. This app
would tie into two units of this class: Native Americans (hunting techniques) and Sports and Leisure (the Wisconsin DNR). Price: 99 cents
external image google-earth-app.jpgGoogle Earth allows the student to use global satellite and aerial imagery at the touch of their fingers. This app could be used when looking at the physical landscape of the state of Wisconsin left by the glaciers. It would also allow them to view Wikipedia articles, and to search cities in Wisconsin (and all over the world). Price: Free!

The Glaciers Study Guide application would be beneficial to those reviewing vocabulary terms, or those wishing to find out an answer from the glaciers unit. Price: $1.99 fee for this app.

external image jot-free-ipad-app-logo.jpg Jot! Free is an application that would allow students within my classroom to "jot" down some notes, or draw images. This app would be useful when learning vocabulary terms, and students who are visual would be able to draw an image of what the definition of a term is (i.e. help the visual learner). Price: Free
external image 485024.png GPSNote allows one to add notes to a map. This is done by placing a green pin on a location and then typing in a few discriptive words about that particular place. This would be a nice app to use on map assignments, or projects within my classroom. Price: Free
external image mzl.ykhdawkr.75x75-65.jpg The iPDF Reader Free app allows readers to search a long list of ebooks and pdf's. This would be beneficial when researching class projects, or just looking for some leisure reading materials on Wisconsin.

Dragon Dictation would allow the student to speak into their iPad and have there words transcribed into a text format. The benefits may come over a period of time of using this app, as the student will see their words in print/text.

external image quickvoicerecorderwspinvox.png The QuickVoice® Recorder application could be used by the teacher to record lectures. This would aide a student who was absent from class that day, or to use as a review source. Price: Free
external image index_mindmash-1.1.4_1000495.jpg MindMash will allow students to take notes, organize them, and add visuals to these created notes. This application is said to be a canvas for one's ideas. Price: Free

There is a monthly fee for this application, but if one enjoys TV (like I do), they can watch current television shows at their convenience. Price: $9.99 a month

It also allows the user to create a customized list of stocks to follow. This would be great use for my stock club. Price: Free
external image calorie-counter-fat-ipad-icon.jpgTrying to watch your weight? This application allows one to do so when they are on the run! Enter and count the calories as you consume them. Price: Free
external image read-it-later-free.jpg Read it Later Free allows you save an article, or a webpage, you'd like to read but can't at that time. It will allow you to save it to your Read it Later list. You can then read it whenever you have the time, and at any place. It acts like a staging area for bookmarks. With my hectic schedule, I would hope to eventually get some down time to read these articles at my leisure! Price: Free
